Trip name: Taste of Vietnam

Departure date: January 21, 2014

TAA did an excellent job arranging a private tour for me, my wife and her mum. Mrs Le was very responsive from the very first email contact and helpful with our planning.  Her suggestion for us to go directly to Ha Long on the afternoon of our arrival in Hanoi enabled us to have all of the next day to relax and enjoy the beautiful Ha Long Bay tour.
We truly enjoyed our “Taste of Vietnam”, thanks to her organising our tour itinerary, and the professional and friendly tour guides Thuy in Hanoi & Ha Long Bay, Phu in Hue & Hoi An and Tin in Ho Chi Minh City. They made us welcome and we appreciate their selection of alternate venues to visit in consideration of my 80 yr old mum-in-law’s physical ability.  Each of the guides lived in the local area and we learnt much about the history of Vietnam through the open sharing of their local knowledge.  They spoke very good English and gave us excellent commentaries on the places we visited.  The guides took us to places with genuine Vietnamese handicraft and souvenirs without any obligation to buy. They gave us adequate time at all the places we visited and we did not feel rushed at all.  The transportation was comfortable and the drivers provided us a safe and courteous service as we travelled in the busy and chaotic traffic conditions.  The guides even taught us how to cross the road safely!
It was interesting to note the slight differences between the North, Central and South Vietnam customs. Being in Vietnam just before Tet (Lunar New Year) gave us an insight into one aspect of the daily life of the people.
During the Ha Long Bay cruise, the delicious lunch provided on the tour boat and our visit to the Cua Van fishing village was a major highlight for us, as we discovered that students from a High School near our Sydney home had participated in a renovation project on one of the floating school buildings and a major Australian grocery store had contributed funds for the education of some of the village students.  The boat tours along the Perfume River in Hue and the Mekong River delta were also excellent as were the stops to experience the local culture.

We enjoyed the authentic and tasty Vietnamese food arranged for our lunches.  It made a special impression on my mum-in-law.  We enjoyed several bowls of Pho, Mi Xao, Mi Quang and the local speciality of Cao Lao in Hoi An.  The suggestions from our guides for finding dinner on our own were helpful.
The hotels selected for our accommodation were of good quality and service.  The breakfast selections at all of them were good.  We appreciated very much the special effort of the kitchen staff of Hanoi City Palace who started work half an hour earlier than normal in the morning so that we could have breakfast before going to the airport for our flight from Hanoi to Hue.  In Hue, the Moonlight hotel was conveniently located and the staff were helpful and friendly. We particularly enjoyed our stay at the Phu Thinh Boutique Resort & Spa hotel in Hoi An where the amenities were good and the staff were very friendly. The Family Inn in Saigon upgraded us to a larger room, but they were not quite prepared for three of us, initially we had amenities for only two persons.

After our tour was completed, Mrs Le continued to be in touch to seek our comments and suggestions for improving the tour.

We have no hesitation in recommending the services of TAA to those wishing to have a really good and memorable visit to Vietnam.

Trip name: The best of Vietnam

Departure date: September 20, 2013

Already 3 times we traveled with the agency. Each time they surprise us by their service quality in relation to price, their flexibility and ability to manage unexpected events. The first milestone was in December 2010. Ngoan provided us a very moose stay. Everything is booked (hotel, train, boat, bus ...). We arrived in Hanoi with blocked Paris luggage we could take 2 days. No clothes, no personal business, Ngoan had to give us a ride into town to buy needed for 2 days. It shifted the whole trip without charge us a penny. What luck! We had a great stay in Hanoi with personalized tours. Example: A buddy of months wanted to visit a traditional village in the woods, where the furniture is manufactured in wood by hand. They organized for us. We spent two days at the remarkable companion, in a typical village of the Red River Delta without encountering any tourist: Eat in Viet Viet sleep in, walk among the rice fields, vegetable gardens ... etc.. Next, we tested four days in Ha Giang, very different from Sapa in the lost corners, deep Vietnam in poverty that we have the pleasure of discovering another world H'mong. Our guide speaks fluent French. He was able to answer all our questions on ethnicity, history, culture, on the border war of 1979, on the country's policy on the development of rural areas. The second time my wife and I returned to Vietnam with children in August 2012. Just arrived, we had a storm that prevented us from going to Halong Bay as planned. Again, Ngoan shifted the entire trip without making us pay. We finally thoroughly enjoy our week on the island of Cat Ba. We had a really lovely hotel, too good compared to what we paid, with a sea view, so close that I had never imagined, just outside the door, a large pool for children . We visited Cat Ba National Park and crossed the island bus. Beautiful landscape! In the end, we ended our stay in the bay on a boat, very welcoming, great food, great kayacking in a fishing village. The third time was this summer, we had a memorable stay in the highlands of Tay Nguyen. We had a great guide (Mr. Son), not only French but also knowledge on agriculture, on coffee, the pepper, and culture of ethnic groups. Besides the more than beautiful scenery, we learned a lot about coffee. We were surprised that Vietnam is the world's largest exporter of coffee, surpassed Brazil in 2012. We were amazed by the gardens of coffee, pepper and rubber forests. We were again surprised by the rich culture of ethnic groups: the Jarai, the M'Nong the Banar .... My children were very happy to do tricks in elephant. Another thing that impressed me a lot is: When we are thirsty, there is always bottled water waiting for us in the car. When we sweat, there is always wipes. When we are hungry, there is always cupcakes or fruit. Always good restaurants with reasonable prices, always original visits. And guides, when we want to be here, they disappear. We do not tell them where we are going, but they always find us. In short, we spent a lot of wonderful moments with this travel agency. I do not know how you tell. You must do yourself.

We were fortunate to participate in 4 tours in Viet Nam with this company, while on a cruise through Indonesia and Asia. We met some Cruise Critic folks aboard, who told us about these tours and generously provided us with Ngoan's contact info. Ngoan graciously accomodated our last minute requests to be included on these tours , even though it was over the Lunar New Year holiday. Each of the itineraries ( Saigon,Nha Trang, Da Nang and Ha Long Bay ) took us to some of the better known sights as well as hidden gems we would not have otherwise seen on our own. We were accompanied by friendly, knowledgeable, funny guides who delighted us with personal tales of their life experiences as well as little known facts about the places we visited.Transport was in comfortable air conditioned vans, and each tour included a fabulous freshly prepared local meal. We were very pleased with this tour operator and highly recommend their services. You won't be disappointed!

Thanks to Travel Authentic Asia our cruise of SE Asia was a pleasure! Our cruise ship offered tours at three times the price in some cases and had far less qualified guides. Travel Authentic was punctual, knowledgeable and friendly. The follow-up with Ngoan was thorough and efficient as well. I would highly recommend this company to anyone planning a trip through Viet Nam, Thailand or Cambodia. Hopefully we will be returning soon to do more touring by land with Travel Authentic Asia!
Well done!

I worked with this agency with the owner, Ngoan since August planning our tours for Vietnam in January on our cruise. She was wonderful and knowledgeable to work with and would add things to our tours that made them even better. Very easy to work with as her english and writing is superb. Worked with us adding people even the day before our tours. If Southeast Asia is in your plans, do not even look for another company for value, pricing and just what you want Travel Authentic Asia is tops for tours. She never let us down, the tours and guides and vehicles were all fantastic. Also had towels and water on all our tours (I booked 4 all day tours for 12 people) Wish they had a agency in all countries, that is how much I enjoyed working and touring and planning with this agency.

Trip name: Glimpse of Vietnam

Departure date: March 20, 2013

My wife and I used Travel Authentic Asia when we visited Vietnam. We contacted them for our in country bookings and advice.
Two things became apparent. One the cost of booking with a Vietnamese Company was dramatically cheaper than using an Australian Agent. Two the level of service was amazing.
We flew into Hanoi and were met at the Airport and taken to the hotel by private vehicle. The hotel was clean and comfortable and had a bathroom. It was located right in the old city and cost $25 a night including breakfast.

The next morning we were visited in our hotel by Phuong a travel agent from Travel Authentic Asia. She also brought a mobile Efpos machine so we could book tours, accommodation, etc in our room. She brought along our ticketing for an internal flight, accommodation and sleeper train to Sapa (up in the mountains where we were going on a hike). We stayed in a Hmong overnight. It was and amazing experience.

Our son and his girlfriend joined us after we returned to Hanoi. Phoung arranged a Halong Bay cruise and day tours of Hanoi and at various locations down the coast South to Saigon.

There were no hick-ups and we were very happy and satisfied with all the arrangements carried out for us by Travel Authentic Asia. We have no hesitation in recommending them. Their care and attention to detail made our trip.

Trip name: Grand North Vietnam - Custom tour

Departure date: January 4, 2014

I rarely find myself making comments on tour operators and hotels and the like. But, after describing to a fellow traveller my great experiences with Travel Authentic Asia, I decided that I should go one step further and add a few comments on this site. From my first contact with the company I could feel that I was dealing with people who really wanted to provide a tour experience that was a cut above the standard offerings. I was already in Vietnam at the time, so I called round to the Travel Authentic Asia office in Hanoi. At once felt I was among friends as I shared a pot of wonderful Vietnamese green tea with Sonny and Ngoan. We got to down to the business of planning my itinerary, and Sonny and Ngoan had picked up on every detail of what I said I wanted in a tour – beautiful countryside, interesting villages and locals and a connection with culture and history. Halong Bay was an experience of a lifetime and a tour into the mountains around Sapa was incredible. So much more still left to see, and I know that when I can come to Vietnam again I won’t risk going with anyone else except Travel Authentic Asia. Holidays are too precious to return home with regrets.

Arriving in Hanoi, we were at the mercy of our tour guide, Sonny. His introduction, presentation and welcome was truly professional. Something about him gave us a very positive vibe that we were in for a good time. The tour was well paced and with a very knowledgeable and passionate tour guide, the trip was made a bit more memorable. Having private guides is definitely recommended. Travelling across Vietnam we had other tour guides and all were really good and pleasant to deal with. The guides took care of small details. Sense of humour, good command of English, accommodating changes on the run was really appreciated. All the hotels were of a good/high standards, the drivers made the trips safer and the best experience was the cyclo ride in Hanoi. The people were nice and the most memorable moment we recall: a local lady seeing my daughter stuck on the other side of the road went back across and guided my daughter safely weaving through the rushing traffic with such an ease in HCM city. What kindness from the people of Vietnam. Vietnam and Cambodia are great places to visit as they have lots of history, beauty and scenic places to see and having Travel Authentic Asia organise it all meant we could totally enjoy the trip without having to worry about hotels, transports and most meals. Definitely recommend them to anyone contemplating visiting Vietnam/Cambodia.

I first met Sonny a few years back, before he started up Travel Authentic Asia, he was the guide on my 15 day tour of Vietnam .The knowledge and passion he has for Vietnam is inspiring, and he enabled me to see the true beauty of the country.. not the landscape but the Vietnamese people.
I have to returned to VN 2 more times since then, and hope to do another a tour later in the year to the more remote areas with Travel Authentic Asia. I know that whatever is organised for me that i will have the best adventure possible.
I have travelled to many other countries and done many small group tours and i have to say Travel Authentic Asia is definately focused on client satisfaction not just getting people from A to B with not much in between.
Sonny has the ability to show you a side of his country that is unique and leaves you wanting to come back again for more of that Vietnamese charm.

Trip name: North Vietnam Experience

Departure date: December 18, 2013

Travel Authentic Asia is essentially run by the same people at Custom Vietnam Travel, but while the latter specialises in Vietnam trips, the former is now branching out into other parts of the region with their numerous contacts all over.

I had used Custom Vietnam Travel before for a long trip to Hoi An and Central Vietnam, and it was excellent and this experience, a customised 11 days through Hanoi and parts of Northern Vietnam, was no different. From the moment you start communicating with them, you realise how different they are. If you have specific preferences for particular type of experiences and sights plus must see places as well as ask for suggestions, these people actually read your email before they send their reply. Many others try to send you a pre-packaged setup and pretend to have read what you have written, but what I got from Sonny Le was a detailed itinerary complete with suggestions and a very highly customised tour based on my very specific photographic needs as well as experience preferences.

The follow up emails and exchanges were no different. I always had questions about places I had read about, and Sonny was always very prompt in his replies, and showed very intimate knowledge of his country and this region in particular. If he thought them worth it, he would try to fit them into the itinerary no matter what kind of a crazy detour it would take. I was very throughly impressed by their professionalism and their knowledge which goes way beyond the usual textbook guides you see at many other places.

As for the customised tour itself, let me just say that I got more than I bargained for ha ha! I had requested non-touristy spots, cultural experiences, encounters with locals and far flung countryside spots far beyond Hanoi. Sonny, who accompanied me through the trip did not spare my behind as we traipsed through all sorts of roads, and I do mean all sorts, including many which do not qualify to be called roads in order to get to places where you would be the only tourist. All you get are curious locals, as we sometimes stumbled upon places which were not on the original itinerary but we improvised. An afternoon spent photographing schoolchildren in an ancient village while they waited for school to begin at 1pm, some beautiful pagodas which were so out of the way only Vietnamese people went to them etc....you get the picture. More than 1000 photos later, and a very dusty/dirty camera sensor, this was a throughly enjoyable tour. The homestay in Hai Duong, trip to Hung Yen, several ancient villages and many other sojourns will not be forgotten.

You always felt you were in safe hands even as we travelled through rough roads and paths and strange places on the trusty motor bicycle with Sonny, and suffice it to say that when I left Hanoi, I quickly resolved to come back again. The city itself is an amazing capital city, quite unlike sterile cities like Singapore and does not have the "we are modernising for the sake of modernising" vibe that many other capitals around the region have. Hanoi remains unique because it is plodding along its own path but I am not sure how long this will be.

As for Travel Authentic Asia, they are already customising an end of the year South Vietnam trip and a short one week August return to Hanoi which will include Sapa this time around (too cold in December!). That's how much I value how they do things. It's not easy for solo travellers in unknown countries: you need to know who you can trust completely. If I was somewhere deep in the North Vietnamese countryside on a motorbike and on a road which seems endless and leading to nowhere, I need to be able to know that I will be safe.

They have my highest recommendation they know their country very very well, and they listen to their customers.
