Hanoi Launches First Double - Decker Tourist Train - “Hanoi Five Gates”

On August 19, Hanoi officially introduced “The Hanoi Train” – Vietnam’s first double-decker tourist train, also known as “Hanoi Five Gates”. This one-of - a - kind tourism product blends the thousand - year - old heritage of Thang Long with modern comfort, offering travelers an entirely new way to experience the beauty and cultural depth of the capital city.

Inspired by Hanoi’s five historic gates – O Quan Chuong, O Cau Den, O Dong Mac, O Cau Giay, and O Cho Dua – the train features seven carriages: five passenger coaches and two check - in carriages. Its interior harmoniously combines classic charm with contemporary style, using warm tones and traditional motifs that evoke memories of old Hanoi. Large panoramic windows provide sweeping views of the streets and the Red River, opening up the city from a refreshing perspective.

More than just a means of transport, the train serves as a cultural stage, where passengers can enjoy traditional performances such as Quan ho folk songs, Ca tru, Cheo, and Xam, turning each journey into a vibrant showcase of Vietnamese heritage.

“The Hanoi Train” operates three trips daily (08:00 – 14:00 – 20:30), departing from Hanoi Railway Station and passing through Long Bien, Gia Lam, Yen Vien, and Tu Son (Bac Ninh) before returning. It is also the only urban train in Vietnam to offer night journeys, giving travelers a magical chance to admire Hanoi illuminated under city lights. In the near future, the train plans to add a café carriage and a dining carriage, gradually shaping a complete railway tourism ecosystem that combines sightseeing, leisure, and gastronomy.
