Itinerary Details

Depart Hanoi at around 08.00AM in the morning for a stunning drive to Ha Giang, a province in the northern most region of Vietnam. Drive past the lust scenery of the Vietnam country from the lowland to highland. You will have stops to visit to villages and tea farms along the way.

Check in home stay in a Tay minority village in the mid afternoon. The rest of the day is to wander around for sightseeing and local interaction.
Dinner and overnight home stay in local house. Accommodation tonight is based on family basis with private mattress, blanket and mosquito net are provided.

Note:
- Drive length today is more than 300km, taking 6 hours but it will be longer due to many stops are made en route.
- You can choose to take accommodation in the hotel or ecolodge instead of homestay local house

Local home breakfast then start your adventure today with a drive along the one of the most spectacular roads in Vietnam getting to the Dong Van Karst plateau with lots of photos stops along the meandering mountain road to Dong Van located along the Chinese border.

Dong Van Karst Plateau with up to 80 percent of its area covered by limestone, with the center is Dong Van Town, was designated by UNESCO as one of 77 geoparks in the World. This is home to 17 ethnic groups including Kinh, Hoa, Lo Lo, Tai, Nung, Chinese Han, Dzao … These people of Dong Van have led their life on the rock for generations and preserve very well their strong traditions and identities. 

Visit to Twin Mountain in Quan Ba, Pho Bang – the little town of Chinese minority with many ancient houses. These traditional houses are made from clay and are featured with distinctive ‘yin and yang’ tile roofs. Pho Bang used to be “the capital of opium” decades ago and now just like a sleeping child amongst the mountains.

Continue to Sa Phin valley where you will visit to Nha Vuong. This fortress-liked ‘Palace’ belonged to the self-appointed King of the Hmong tribe who ruled the northern mountains around Dong Van in the old time. The palace attracts keen interest from architecturally minded visitors due to its mixed style of European and Chinese architecture. (There is a weekly market here every fourth or fifth day depending on the lunar calendar).
Drive up further to Lung Cu, the mount on the most northern tip of Vietnam. Enjoy the great mountain view from the top of Lung Cu Flag tower and then visit to a village of the Lo Lo hill tribe to discover more on their unique culture and customs.
Get to Dong Van town in the late afternoon. Check in hotel and the remainder of the day is free to wander around the lovely laidback mountain town.

After breakfast, leave Dong Van for driving towards the Ma Pi Leng pass, one of the greatest passes in the mountain north of Vietnam and is also known as ‘Heaven’s Gate Pass’ as it gives the feeling of touching the sky. The pass was dug on mountain cliffs by hands of thousands of local workers from 1959 to 1965 during the building of Happiness Road that connects Ha Giang city and mountainous districts. The drive skirts the Chinese border through a deep valley and as you wind along the narrow roads you’ll be surrounded by spectacular valleys and towering perpendicular walls of rock.
Visit Meo Vac town and its market where local come from surrounding villages to buy and sell fresh produce as well as dry goods. The market is particularly busy on Sunday and is considered one of the most colorful hill tribe markets in this remote region of Vietnam. Apart from shops with plenty of beautiful local handicrafts, there’s also a livestock market where the locals trade horses, cattle, pigs, dogs and so on. Then drive downhill along the road 176 through stunning landscapes, passing mountains villages and passes to Mau Due and Du Gia to Yen Minh and back To Ha Giang.

Check in accommodation in Ha Giang in the late afternoon. Remainder of the day is at your leisure and perhaps pamper yourself with a herbal bath and traditional massage (optional - available at eco-lodge).

Leave Ha Giang early and enjoy your drive along the zigzag mountain road to Hoang Su Phi, the place known for its terraced field designated as National Heritage.
Leave your luggage at the eco lodge and enjoy the adventure trek passing villages of Yao with long tunics who have settled their house on pillar on the mountainside, through the rice fields in terraces, the bamboo forests.
Lunch is taken at a local home.
In the afternoon, continue your trek through some most fascinating landscapes of mountains and terrace fields, villages.
Check in home stay in a local house of Red Dzao people. Spend time to wander around the village for local interaction and sightseeing.
Dinner and overnight home stay local house.

Local breakfast then say goodbye to your host and enjoy the morning trek for sightseeing of more Hoang Su Phi landscapes.
Lunch is at a local home of hill tribe village.
After lunch, take another 2 hours trek little up and downhill back to the eco lodge where you left your luggage.
Check in and remainder of the day is to relax and perhaps pamper yourself with a sauna and foot, body massage (optional).

Enjoy the morning at your leisure until check out time (around 10) then drive downhill back Hanoi. (6 hour drive including stops).
