The efforts of Thailand to partially lift the restrictions on tourism is a part of the new "living with Covid-19" strategy. Many countries in the region such as Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines are also coming up with new policies to deal with the pandemic and revive their economies from a prolonged recession.

Since this economic sector contributes up to one-fifth of Thailand's GDP in 2019, the recovery of tourism needs to be a priority, according to the Prime Minister of Thailand.

In July, the program of “Sandbox Phuket” was the pioneer of the country and also the area when reopened for international tourists. The vaccinated travelers are welcome without any quarantines, and after 14 days, they are allowed to travel to other destinations in the country. The success of this program has encouraged Thailand government to expand the model to whole country. According to Phuket officials, more than 26,000 tourists being to Phuket in the past two months have brought in 1.6 billion baht to tourism revenue.

The sustainable increation in the vaccination rate of not only Thailand but also other areas is a compulsory element to strengthen the believes of the Governments, people and tourists on a safe and responsible travel post-pandemic. The Ministry of Health says that most of the tourist destinations selected to reopen have higher-than-average vaccination rate and continue to strengthen vaccination levels.
