Types of Myanmar Visa

Tourist Visa

This type of visa is for tourism purpose only. Foreign tourists are allowed to enter Myanmar and stay for 28 days. The tourist visa can be extended up to 2 weeks. Tourist visa is one of two e-visa types, besides Business visa.

Business Visa

Business Visa is for foreign businessmen and business purpose only. Business visa is valid for 70 days and can be extended. You can obtain a business visa on arrival or through Myanmar embassies.

Social Visa

Social visa is for the foreign husband or wife of a Burmese, children of a Burmese and a foreigner, or those who surrendered Myanmar Citizenship. This visa allows travellers to enter and stay in Myanmar for 28 days and can be extended in Myanmar.

Meditation Visa

This type of visa is for both foreigners and ex-Myanmar citizens who come to attend a meditation course in Myanmar. Meditation Visa allows travellers to enter and stay for 90 days. The visa is valid within three months from the distribution date.

Transit Visa

Transit visa is for travellers entering Myanmar to transit to another country. It allows travellers to enter and stay in Myanmar within 24 hours.

Multiple Entry Visa

This type of visa is only for travellers who must have been obtained Business Visa at least three times within one year.

How to apply for a Myanmar Visa

Visa application

Most foreigner (except ones come from the countries in Myanmar visa-free list) are required a visa to enter Myanmar. You can submit your application for a visa in the Myanmar Embassy / Consulate in your country. The application form can be downloaded from the official website of Myanmar Embassy.

Besides this direct way, you can apply for a Myanmar Visa by using Myanmar e-Visa system. It is designed to bring a convenient experience to the users, especially when there is no Myanmar Embassy in your country.

Documentary requirement for Myanmar visa applying

  • A valid passport for at least six months later and have at least one blank visa page (amendments and endorsement pages are not included). Your passport must not be frayed, torn, separating, or altered.
  • 2 portrait photos (4x6 cm) taken within the last six months
  • A visa application form with all required information filled in.
  • If you want to apply for a business visa, you will need copies of company registration/business license of permission to do business issued.
  • If you tend to apply for a transit visa, you have to produce an air ticket with the destination where you will arrive
  • If you have under-seven-year-old children travelling with you, you will have to provide the evidence of parent-children relationship if your children are holding separate passports.

Myanmar Visa on arrival

You can submit for a Myanmar Visa on arrival, right after your flight landed. The application form can be downloaded from the respective airlines or here. Submit your Visa On Arrival Form at Visa On Arrival Counter of Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw International Airports.

To apply for a Visa on arrival, please submit:

  • Visa on the arrival application form with all required information filled in.
  • A valid passport for at least six months later.
  • 2 colour portrait photos taken within the last six months.

Myanmar Visa Exemption

Citizens of Vietnam and Singapore can have 30-day of visa-free when entering Myanmar for tourist or business purpose. From 1 October 2018 until 30 September 2020, tourists from Hong Kong, Macao, Japan and South America can enter Myanmar without a visa. Travellers from these countries are allowed to enter Myanmar and stay for up to 30 days. However, Visa Extension will not be granted.

Otherwise, citizens from these six countries, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Philippine and Thailand, are not required a visa to enter Myanmar for tourist and business purpose for up to 14 days. Travellers from these six countries must enter by and depart from Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw or Mandalay International Airport to be eligible for visa-free entry.
