This hidden town is considered one of the highlights for travelers who are on their loop around northeast Vietnam.

Bao Lac

With the beautiful landscapes and untouched nature, Bao Lac attracts tourists who are seeking an adventurous and authentic experience. To be considered the off-the-beaten-path area for traveling from Ha Giang to Cao Bang, the trekking route here also offers you the chance to know about local people’s daily life, their unique customs, and sealed culture. Apparently, there are some nice little side roads worthwhile to explore and you can visit some little villages to have local interaction with people living in the area. Among them, do not miss the chance to pass by or experience one night at a homestay in Khuoi Khon village which is home to Lo Lo ethnic group with the traditional brocade weaving and special local food. Coming to Bao Lac, there are other interesting activities that you can do including visiting the ancient mansion of Nong family in the town and the historical site Dong Mu station, climbing Phja Da mountain - the roof of Cao Bang, trekking the Xuan Truong valley to take your great photos and strolling in the local market to taste some ethnic dishes such as Thang Co, dried buffalo meat, Men Men…

Local market in Bao Lac

Bao Lac is one of the points on the north loop including Ha Giang, Meo Vac, and Cao Bang. The best time to visit Bao Lac is from March to May and from August to November when it has pleasant weather and less rainfall. The most convenient and comfortable way to get to Bao Lac from Hanoi is by private car as you can make optional stops along the way to take photos of amazing scenery and try some local food. Additionally, adventure tourists can easily rent a motorbike to reach the region but ensure your safety first as the mountainous terrain is steep, slippery, and sometimes foggy all day.
