Kuthodaw Pagoda

Kuthodaw Pagoda, also known as the white pagoda, is a must-visit destination when traveling to Myanmar. It's recognized by the locals as the largest temple in the world, thanks to the largest Buddhist scripture contained within it. This magnificent temple is situated on Road 62, right in the heart of Mandalay's ancient city, between the Mandalay hill and the Mandalay palace. Just a few minutes' walk away is the Sadamuni Pagoda.

The Kuthodaw complex comprises a bright yellow stupa positioned in the center, accompanied by 729 white stupas surrounding it, with small passages between the towers. The construction of the Kuthodaw was completed in 1857, and at that time, it was known as Mahalo Gama Ruosheng. King Min Don held the 5th Buddhist revision conference here, attracting more than 2,400 monks from all over Indochina.

The 729 white marble monuments in the white stupas are engraved with modified Buddhist scriptures in Pali, making this the largest book of Buddhist scriptures in the world. It's an awe-inspiring sight, and visitors are bound to feel an immediate sense of spirituality when taking in this remarkable site.
