Taukkyan War Cemetery

Taukkyan War Cemetery is a cemetery commemorating allied soldiers of the British Commonwealth, who died in World War II in Burma located on highway No 1, Taukkyan town, Yangon. This is a place where visitors can learn more about Myanmar's history and pay their respects to those who died in the war.

The cemetery was opened in 1951 and this is the resting place of 6374 allied soldiers who died in the Burmese and Assam campaigns during World War II. In addition, there is a Rangoon Memorial with the names of 27,000 soldiers who died without graves in the campaign in Burma, The Taukkyan Cremation Memorial commenmorates over 1000 casualties in Second World War and The Taukkyan Memorial commenmorates 46 servicesmen died and burried somewhere else in Burma.

It takes about 1 hour drive from Yangon center or 30 minutes from Yangon airport to visit Taukkyan War Cemetery. You can come here early in the morning or drop by when you are on your way to Bago or Mandalay.
