Ko Chang is an island locates in Trat Province, in the Gulf of Thailand, about 300 kilometres east of
Bangkok. Koh Chang is also known as ‘Elephant Island’, due to its unique elephant-shaped headland.
In recent years, Koh Cahang has become a desired destination and attracts a huge number of tourists to visit thanks to its pristine natural beauty.
As one of Thailand's most beautiful islands, Koh Chang has long white sandy beaches and flourishing coral reefs. With 70% of the island is covered in rainforests, mountains and beaches, Koh Chang is also home to a diverse wildlife, including a wide range selection of birds, reptiles, and mammals. The highest mountain in Koh Chang is Khao Salak Phet, perching at 743 metres, with an abundance of waterfalls, including the highest Klong Neung waterfall.
This island is a great place for snorkelling, diving and jungle trekking. Since 2000, with the rapid growth of the tourism here, Koh Chang has gone under a significant development in services and accommodations, but the island is still a lot “quieter” compared to Phuket or Ko Samui, especially in high season. So, if you are looking for an “off-beaten track” experience, Koh Chang is really worth your effort.
The cool season in Koh Chang lasts from November to the end of February. This is also the peak season here, with perfect conditions for good sunbathing and other beach activities. If crowds are not the matter, visiting Koh Chang during this time is great. Besides, many tourists choose to visit Koh Chang during Songkran, or Thai New Year, which is from 13th – 15th April to participate in this exciting celebration. Don’t forget to keep your camera, phone and passport away from water when you hanging out on the streets.
