Fact#2 - Owns the world’s largest cave, Son Doong. This cave was discovered in 1991 in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park near the Laos border. Within it a 60 meter high calcite wall can be found which is dubbed as “The Great Wall of Vietnam” along with 70 meters tall stalagmites. There is another cave within the same national park called Phong Nha that is 7.7 kilometers long with a subterranean river that is nearly 14 kilometers long.

Fact#3 – The ‘S’ shaped coastline. Vietnam’s coastline extends from just the north of Halong Bay in the South China Sea around to the Gulf of Thailand where the Phu Quoc Island is there. The total length of the coastline is measured as 3,444 kilometers.

Fact#4 – Vietnam is the owner of 8 UNESCO sites. The Complex of Hue Monuments, Hoi An Ancient Town, My Son Sanctuary, the Central Sector of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long in Hanoi and the Citadel of the Ho Dynasty are the 5 cultural sites that have been recognized by UNESCO. Natural sites Ha Long Bay and Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park along with Trang An Landscape Complex that is both natural and cultural site are the other three UNESCO sites in Vietnam.

Fact#5 – Halong Bay Evolution. The Halong Bay’s karsts have evolved over a period of 20 million years. The entire area stretches over 1,553 square kilometers comprising of about 2000 islets.
