Nghia Lo Town, secluded in the flat valley called Muong Lo and surrounded by numerous stunning mountains, is home to 17 ethnic minorities (around 30,000 people in total) and most of them are the Thai, Kinh, and Tay people. This land has been the biggest trading center of the northwestern mountain and nowadays, it becomes a crowded and active town like other regions in the Red River Delta. Driving on the road leading to Nghia Lo, you will reach the mountain passes at the altitude of 1,000m above sea level and be rewarded the breathtaking view of majestic mountain slopes and peaceful valleys dotted with lovely house on stilts of ethnic people, fresh green tea gardens, charming streams, and beautiful forests. Planning a trip to Nghia Lo, you can gain many interesting experiences by visiting the center Muong Lo market – the commercial hub of Yen Bai where you can buy various items as souvenirs for your friends and meeting farmers working on the Muong Lo rice fields to get more knowledge about their great techniques applied in agriculture for many years. Additionally, you should not miss the chance to stay at a local house on stilts in a village, entertain with the traditional Chom Chieng dance or the impressive Thai people’s dancing performance, try some specialties here such as bamboo sticky rice, grilled pork, five-colored glutinous rice and enjoy rice wine while talking with the host.
